Job Description
Senior Software Engineer (m/f/d, Individual Contributor) — Potsdam only, 50%+ in-office, Full-Time Start: as soon as possible (ideally March/April 2026)
Who We Are
Resilens is dedicated to solving one of the urgent challenges of our time: enabling communities and cities to adapt to a changing climate. Not everything can be prevented - but effective adaptation reduces losses and protects people where it matters most.
Our clients are city leaders and private operators who will use our climate adaptation platform to move from uncertainty to evidence-based action. We’re a data-first company combining domain expertise with modern technology. We turn climate risk into ranked measures and fundable priorities - with clear numbers on risk, cost, and expected impact. We’re looking for hands-on builders who want to join us in making adaptation happen.
How we work: We believe regular in-person collaboration matters in an early-stage specialist team. We work in a hybrid setup with regular in-person collaboration. This role is based in Potsdam only. We typically expect 50%+ in-office presence, including 1–2 fixed team days per week.
What you’ll do
This role exists to turn fast prototype progress into durable product delivery: strong engineering quality, clear priorities, and rapid iteration with real users.
You work directly with the founding team to ship our launch product and evolve it into a reliable production offering.
You will build and improve a customer-facing web application and the supporting data workflows needed for onboarding, analysis, and reporting.
You will own hard product-engineering problems end-to-end, for example:
Turning messy real-world datasets into reliable, reviewable, customer-facing outputs.
Making it easy to trace every number we show or export back to its source and calculation, so customers can understand, trust, and verify the results.
Making maps and analytics fast and dependable for data-heavy workflows.
Shipping reporting and export flows that are reproducible and easy to operate.
You shape a responsible AI-augmented engineering practice by using modern tools for speed while owning correctness, tests, and maintainability.
Our 12-month outcomes include:
The launch product is live and delivering value to early customers.
Core product workflows are reliable and observable, with clear signals for uptime, latency, and errors across key user journeys.
Data quality, traceability, and reporting accuracy improve to support customer trust.
Engineering velocity stays high while code quality and maintainability improve.
The team has clear technical foundations for the next phase of product growth.
What we’re looking for
Must haves
You have valid EU work authorization.
6+ years of software engineering experience building and shipping production web products.
Strong full-stack capability: modern frontend development, backend services, and SQL-based data modeling.
Experience designing data pipelines and application workflows with strong quality controls and auditability.
Ability to make pragmatic technical trade-offs under tight timelines.
Comfortable working directly with founders in a fast-moving, early-stage environment.
Strong communication and collaboration across product, engineering, and domain experts.
You are comfortable working across a modern web stack and data-heavy product workflows.
You enjoy working with product, research, and commercial colleagues and value their views alongside your technical expertise.
Nice to haves
Experience with geospatial or climate-related products, analytics-heavy applications, or startup 0-to-1 product builds.
Experience using AI tools to move faster without compromising code quality and long-term maintainability.
Experience with our current stack which currently includes Python, React, PostgreSQL and PostGIS, Typescript, DuckDB, Marimo/Jupyter notebooks.
Our operating principles
English is our working language. German is a plus.
We care about climate adaptation and tangible, on-the-ground impact.
We don’t wait for perfect plans: We define outcomes and flag risks early.
We learn fast and turn that learning into real outputs.
We separate our ego from our ideas and update our beliefs when presented with better evidence.
What We Offer You
We offer the chance to build a category-defining product alongside experienced people who have pioneered this field before.
Direct Impact: Work on the core of a product that changes how cities and operators will handle the climate crisis.
Experienced team: We are led by a founding team with 20+ years of experience each across climate analytics, scalable software, and building companies.
No drama, no egos. We value evidence over impressions and respect over hierarchy.
Room for Growth: We are a small team building an impactful product. This offers you a unique environment to master how complex climate risks are translated into real-world investable action.
Aligned Autonomy: We agree on the “Why” and the outcomes, then you own the “How.”
Competitive compensation. Equity may be part of the package depending on role scope and fit.
Strong runway: We are financed for the next 3 years.
A high-ownership role where you help shape engineering practices and how we build.
Inclusive by Design: We believe diverse backgrounds and perspectives strengthen judgment and product quality. We evaluate candidates against consistent outcomes and competencies, and we encourage applications from all genders, backgrounds, and experiences. We look for genuinely kind collaborators who make our team better through empathy, candid feedback, and a shared commitment to excellence.
